Scopus User Guide: Reviewing Search Results

This is an introduction to the different features in the Scopus database and how to use Scopus for Research.

Analyze search results

The Analyze Search Results function provides an analysis of document counts to help you evaluate your results.

View Citing Documents

If a publication has been cited, the number of citations will be provided in the right-hand column of the search results. Click on the number to view a list of those publications.

Scopus Citations

While viewing a document record, the first few citations are listed in the "Cited by" box on the right side of the page. To view the full list, click on "View all citing documents."View all cited articles

Refine search results

From the left-hand menu, you can:

  • Search within your results
  • Select only open access documents (learn more about the Open Access filter below)
  • Use filters to limit or exclude results from your search, including, but not limited to:
    • Access Type
    • Publication Year
    • Keyword
    • Affiliation
    • Author Name
    • Subject Area

My List

As you review your search results, you can add individual or multiple documents of interest to a list, called "My List."  To save a list you must be signed in to Scopus. Otherwise you can create a temporary list which is automatically deleted when you close your session.

All contents included in this list can then be exported to RefWorks or emailed.

Adding to My List

Documents can be added to "My List" either from the results list or from a document's record.

While viewing your search results, check the box to the left of any document you wish to add or check the uppermost box in the column to select all results.

From a document details page, click 'Save to list'.
